Saw Memento this afternoon at the Arbor. Whoa. My head is still spinning from it. I can't imagine how arduous a task editing that film was. The way it usees time is quite different, even more extraordinary than jumping around like say Pulp Fiction. It was good, and a movie one needs to watch over and over. I need to email Hana and send her to see it. Maybe I'll take her.

Also saw a preview of The Luzhin Defense, based on Nabokov's novel. I'm not sure how I feel about this. But if I can, I will probably see it. The Luzhin Defense is the original Russian title, though why exactly it was changed in the English translation I forget. It's one of my favorite pieces of Nabokov's, fantastically constructed. One can quite literally play a game of chess through the paragraphs. It's the only reason I ever wanted to play chess.

The original title is Защита Лужина. It's playing downtown here in Houston somewhere...I'd like to see it before returning to Colorado, actually, as the book is one of my favorites, too. Among other things I like about the book, as someone who does (did) play chess, it's nice to see a treatment of the game that is informed.

Cheers...
