Well it finally happened. I had a caller who couldn't speak much English and was a Russian speaker. I was able to get some basic things from him, and I could understand about 70% of what he was saying. I sadly lacked the vocabulary to explain things or ask certain questions, so I had to pull in an interpreter from the language line service. Thank you AT&T for finally being useful. It's funny what you retain and what you don't. I could get all my numbers but hell if I could remember how to hit or slap. I feel sad that my Russian hasn't stuck better, and I really need to find some time to study and practice. Still, it was better to get the interpreter on there for this, because my caller was very emotional and talking extremely fast. Plus he told me an insane story about the grandfather who murdered half the family back in Uzbekistan! I definitely didn't know some of those words.
