think before you speak

"I know how y'all are there, I know you don't really care."
-angry parent upset that I was not taking a report

This is something I hear on a weekly basis. You don't care. Bullshit. If all our calls were not recorded and it wasn't unprofessional, I would go off on these people. Right. I don't care. I have this job because it pays so much money and it's so easy and I don't have to care. I listen to horror stories about abuse and sobbing and screaming and threats eight hours every day five days a week because I don't care. I take between twelve and eighteen calls every day. We'll say I take an average of seventy five calls in each work week. I listen to seventy five different stories and different pleas every week because I don't care. Right.

What the fuck ever.

This day is fired. My car is injured, I have cramps, and I have no cigarettes or lunch and this is all fucking bullshit.

Pringle?

Mmmm pringle. Sounds good. My favorite kind if the sour cream and onion one, what's yours?

(I am totally buying pringles when I go to the store next.)

[blinks]

Thats so what I have. I just ate half the box!

[identity profile] kleverkira.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Right. I loved when that happened too. "You don't care; you're just in it for the paycheck." The paycheck I didn't get? The summer I could've been cavorting in Italy or Germany with some of my friends? Or staying at home with my boyfriend? Yeah, okay.

And I don't know if it's just that people mistake professionalism for stoicism or what, but that's their issue.

[identity profile] melanie.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
ouch. :(

[identity profile] tsarina.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I am full of Pringle Envy!

[identity profile] tsarina.livejournal.com 2006-08-30 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Your HUGE paycheck! Hah. I love that.

I say we run away to Italy for a month.

[identity profile] tsarina.livejournal.com 2006-08-30 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
A very concise summary. I wish I had just written that instead. ;) Ouch indeed. What a day. (And it isn't even a full moon!)

[identity profile] kleverkira.livejournal.com 2006-08-30 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, most definitely. I'll just call it "research" or something.

[identity profile] onyxlynxx.livejournal.com 2006-08-30 01:22 pm (UTC)(link)
We don't need a full moon to bring the lunatics out around here.

I think they should have to do our job for at least a day before they open their stupid mouths.

We could just switch and take their place making widgets or selling crack or whatever.

I am sorry that someone spewed all that bile on you. *hugs*

[identity profile] sykii.livejournal.com 2006-08-30 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh. That is grossly, horribly unfair. Dunno what else to say, but I'm sorry you have to deal with that idiocy.

[identity profile] tsarina.livejournal.com 2006-08-30 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It just makes so little sense when people say that sort of thing.

[identity profile] tsarina.livejournal.com 2006-08-30 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahahaha! We can all go to work with Gaylene down at the corner one day, and then we can take her to work with us the next! :P

I don't know if you read Vanity Fair, but they have an essay contest every year, and this year the prize is a huge chunk of money and a week in Italy at a writer's retreat.

[identity profile] yahvah.livejournal.com 2006-08-30 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd like to meet you.

[identity profile] tsarina.livejournal.com 2006-08-30 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
You certainly picked a really strange entry to leave that comment on. Care to elaborate? You want to meet me because I get so angry and worked up about social work, because I'm a crazy person who thought social work sounded like a swell idea or because of my sarcasm? Or is this comment random internet sarcasm? Having no other context to work with, I have to throw these questions out there.

[identity profile] yahvah.livejournal.com 2006-08-30 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I wasn't being sarcastic. You'd probably know for sure if I were. I want to meet you because I want to meet you. It's interesting and admirable that you're a social worker, and I do like sarcasm.

[identity profile] tsarina.livejournal.com 2006-08-30 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Fair enough. So how did you end over on this corner of LJ land? My guess is the friends list of the LJ austin community but if it was something else I'd be interested to know. I like the spiderweb links of the internet.

The rest of this week is no good for meetings, as I'm going out of town to kick a friend of mine in the shins and make a pie, but perhaps next week we could grab a cup of coffee and meet.

[identity profile] yahvah.livejournal.com 2006-08-30 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
It was the austincommunity. Enjoy your trip and I'll talk to you next week.

[identity profile] yahvah.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it's the middle of "next week", so you definitely should've expected me to be around here sooner or later.

[identity profile] tsarina.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Next week and apparently still interesting.
