this is what I do on my days off

I can't be the only person who makes cookies on a Saturday afternoon while listening to Apoptygma Berzerk cover one of my favorite Marilyn Mason songs, VNV Nation, and Razed in Black. Can I? Maybe this is just the suburban-too-shy-to-even-hang-with-the goth-kids-and-too-tan-anyway self rising up again after ten years. But I can think of few afternoons so nice as this - in my kitchen barefoot and swaying back and forth while I try to cream butter and sugar by hand to make chocolate & peanut butter chip cookies. If only every day could be this easy.

(Note: if you're nutty enough to cream butter by hand cause your friend is using your KitchenAid mixer, make sure the handle of whatever you are using is comfortable. Ow.)

I always have the tv on... CNN Headline until I practically have the repeats memorized, or cooking shows TiVo's gotten that don't hold enough interest for me to watch with undivided attention, or things like What Not To Wear or Biography or Inside the Actor's Studio (which, this reminds me, I need to go give some more thumbs up, because I hardly ever get those). Or Aladdin, Into the Woods, or a Goo Goo Dolls concert DVD if I feel like something I can sing to.

My parents always watched the evening news during dinner (the concept of a formal meal where you politely talk about everyone's day and ask to be excused when you're done is completely alien to me). I guess their idea of 'noise in the kitchen' just stuck.
