You are a loving cat owner doing all that you can to help. Oxyclean for spot removal in the laundry works awesome on all sorts of stains. Spray the stain liberally, let soak, then scrub with a white cloth. To help with the smell, I actually use laundry detergent mixed with water in a bucket and mop the carpet.
BTW, hot dogs and root beer for dinner rocks. You work full-time, please don't pressure yourself to provide gourmet meals every night.
