my aching head

I left work a little early yesterday, with the intent of picking up things for baking. The grocery store made my headache worse, and after I made it home in the 5pm traffic, My head was hurting so bad I thought I might pass out. I feel bad about missing Stacy's birthday potluck, so I'm going to shop together a nice IOU Pie card sometime. Or just make a pie. I ended up sleeping on the couch for at least an hour, maybe two.

Mike bought us tickets to the new Drafthouse at the Ritz on 6th, to see No Country for Old Men. The new theater is lovely. The lobby is too too too small, and waiting in a line on 6th street made me cough and hate the world. They were shooting watermelons with pneumatic cattle prods though.

Gloriously, this movie may be one of the single greatest things I've ever seen on the screen. It is stripped to the bone, stark and sharp edged. The cinematography of West Texas is all open sky, the heat lighting at night, the dry and brittle land on the edge of nothing. The Coen brothers have distilled all their brilliance and subtle humor in this. Javier Bardem is one scary motherfucker in the role of Anton Chigurh. It is just incredible.

My head still aches. I might just curl up and cry from it, but that will only make matters worse. I spent thirty minutes just sitting in the shower, coughing up the foul sludge from my lungs. I hate being sick. I coughed so hard I made my nose bleed. It was less than fun.

I'm glad to hear the movie really is worth seeing... I've heard so many glowing reviews that I couldn't help but think it was overhyped.

Question: where does one park to go to the Alamo now? LOTR will be my first time at the new theater.

Hope you get better soon! Have some chicken noodle soup or something. =)

Yeah, I was nervous. It seemed to perfect to be true. But man. Amazing.

For the LOTR thing it should be way easier than going at night. There should be street parking in the area. I would just avoid parking on 6th itself, and try San Jacinto or Trinity. It's free on weekends. There are a couple parking garages on 7th street within a block of the Alamo, and a couple pay parking lots. I wouldn't park much more east of the theater because (and I hate to say this) there's a lot of crackheads who hang around the homeless shelter.

Your reviews are inspired. I can totally see you with a professional movie review blog.

Feel better. I think 75% of Austin has this awful crud right now.
