Running errands this morning gave me much time to think. Mostly I thought about marketing, specifically the marketing of reusable grocery sacks and public transportation. I came up with a brilliant idea! Why is no one appealing to the sense of elitism and superiority so prevalent? Imagine this ad campaign - a well groomed and dressed woman is standing in line at the grocery store, holding her reusable bags in one hand. Her grocery cart is full of organic produce, free range meat and hormone free milk. In line ahead of her is a frumpy, messy woman with a screaming child is piling up unidentifiable lunch meat, juice boxes, white bread and processed cheese. The caption can read "Reusable grocery sacks: One more way to feel morally superior."

Ha!

But then there's me, with the cart full of organic produce and hormone free milk and the reusable bags, and the uncombed hair and no makeup and the coat missing two buttons because I never remember to sew them back on until I'm running out the door.

San Francisco and Suffolk County, NY, have banned plastic bags, and they're gone in Ireland too thanks to a tax. And Whole Foods is going to ban them nationwide as well.

It won't be long until everyone follows suit, methinks.
