I spent an hour driving around in the dark, circling the highway and listening to the radio play songs I knew from 1989. Silly waste of gas, I know, with things the way they are now. But I suppose you would have to grow up in a place like this, around the same time, to know why sometimes it is a necessary thing.

It reminded me of how much I liked to smoke in the cold, how the air would knife into my wrist at the window and the dark clarity of the night made everything just be everything.

I had a cool dream about you last night. I was in a college building, I think, one with a huge common area, and someone yelled out, "There's Amanda!" And I turned and you were coming through the door. There was a rush of people towards you, but somehow I got to you first, giving you a huge hug. You looked incredible, and had a horde of adoring fans around you, and I was so proud to know you personally. You took it all with pleasant gracefulness.
