I've had these posters many years. They were a gift from a strange economics teacher in high school, a weathered old man whose name was Mr. Smiley. He had them tucked away in a closet, gifts from Soviet exchange students who came to the high school years and years before. For a long time they were held up by thumb tacks, their corners frayed and bitten through. I finally had them framed when I came into a bit of money a couple years ago. It was a significant expense for me, but worth it. I doubt they are worth anything more than what I would pay for them, but I love to have them. They remind me of another world.

Dude, that Mir poster would look very nice on my wall. The Soviet realist aesthetic has always appealed to me, and never has voting looked so aggressively elegant.

oh!!!! how gorgeous!!! M gave me a couple of Soviet era school posters a few years ago -- teaching aids for the 2nd and 4th grades, that she then had framed. They are lovely, but the colors are hugely faded from years on schoolroom walls.
