failcakes

I just baked the most beautiful, fluffy, chocolate sponge cake. It looked absolutely perfect. While lifting it up to turn out on some parchment paper, I dropped it. It smacked the over door and broke into pieces on my (in dire need of a stout mopping) floor. I am just crushed, and so mad with myself about it. Now there isn't time to make another one before work and cooking dinner, plus I've got to get the robot to mop up the kitchen now. Sigh.

Well if I had paid attention and read Warren Ellis's site this morning I would have realized it is Blue Monday and thus all endeavours are doomed.

a colleague of mine had a few of us over for dinner last month and had a similar issue with his chocolate cake. it was very endearing, to be honest. and the cake was still really delicious, although it looked like... is there any that didn't get on the floor? what is that social psychological principle about how people like others better if they show some weakness than if they are perfect perfect perfect? i don't remember, but it's true.

Sadly, all of it hit the floor. Ordinarily this wouldn't bother me so much. But the floor was in a disreputable state and I have put off cleaning for weeks and weeks - I planned on cleaning after baking in case I got sugar everywhere.... bah.

I shall have to suck it up and go again, but this one just looked so right. Boo.
