We saw The Road this evening, which was as grim and aching as anything on this earth. The creaking and the sound of the wind are relentless. The sound is agonizing. I spent most of the movie flattened in my seat, tensed to jump up and run away as soon as those sounds transformed into some menace. What a grim, grim film. It's revived all my buried fears of nuclear winters.

The book was the bleakest thing I've ever read. And I took a course in post-apocalyptic literature. I'm not sure I could watch the film.

It is quite a faithful adaptation of the book too. (So much that I heard some people complaining as we left, perhaps expecting a much more Hollywood glamour version of the end of the world.)

My hat must go off to the people who made it - it's an astonishing feat. But yeah, bleak and brutal.

I told Chuck he could go see it by himself. Now I'm glad I did.
Though we might go see "Anti-Christ" today. Chaos Reigns!

it was tough to sit through, feeling constantly on edge, that any moment everything could plummet into abject terror from benign desolation. i was exhausted afterwards.

I'm not sure I can make myself ever see another von Trier film. I think I'm still scarred from Dancer in the Dark.

Exactly - it was exhausting. I haven't seen anything that made me feel so wiped out in a long time.

I decided to skip "Anti-Christ" today. Chuck said it was non-sensical and misogynstic.
