Today, more than any day in years, I've wanted a cigarette. I don't know why. I dreamed about a lost city, and that it was gently raining outside. In truth there were some hazy clouds but no rain.

The drought is harsh and terrible here. I water the front yard at night about once a week, mostly for the sake of the pear tree. That's all.

Went to the eye doctor today, and walked out with some trial contacts. It's been awhile since I wore contacts but it only took me a half dozen tries to get them in the eyes. It feels weird, like everything has a certain extra depth.

Must have been something in the air yesterday. I wanted a cigarette too, and I switched to an ecig last year, so it wasn't nicotine or puffing cravings on my part. I just, for some odd reason, wanted an actual death stick.

And yes, the rain situation sucks. I'm having to water my garden almost every day, and city water just never does as good as a nice rain. The garden is going to be a struggle this summer.

Totally something in the air; fresh air always makes me want a cigarette. There's a slew of irony in that I think. I've had a pack sitting on my desk organizer for 3 weeks. I usually forget about it.

So far the resisting is going well.

I wish we could give you our rain. It's rained nearly every day in may.
