updates on the state of me

I haven't written here in a month, and I feel bad about that.

Pumpkin's death right when we got back from Florida was pretty hard to take. The house is different in so many little ways without him. I don't think Jasmine was much phased, and she seems fine as an only cat. I'm not ready to think about getting another cat.

Florida was nice. We did nothing but hang out at the hotel and beach. We watched the eclipse from the veranda while eating a very extravagant meal. I love the ocean. I don't know if I want to live beside it, but I wish I was a little closer to make visiting more regular.

I've seen Crimson Peak twice. It is exquisitely beautiful and Del Toro is a master filmmaker. His visions are so gloriously realized. I saw The Keeping Room, which I really enjoyed. I also saw an old school Hollywood haunted house movie, The Uninvited, which was a goddamn delight and full of gay subtext. The original Let The Right One In played for Cinema Cocktails and I drank a bunch of scotch. I purchased my opening day ticket for Star Wars.

Work has been hectic. But I feel like my contributions are valued, and that goes a long way. I bought some new pans and they are very nice. I've baked a lot of pumpkin bread this month.

I learned to cross stitch recently, thanks to the internet. It's fun.

We signed up for one of those meal services that delivers groceries and recipe cards. I did the math and it works out to about what I'd spend anyways, more or less. It also makes me cook things I wouldn't ordinarily cook, and I've discovered there are more vegetables I like than I imagined. It is nice and low commitment. Plus I learned how to make pizza.

I feel really old some days. It feels dumb.

Writing continues. Some days I even feel like I'm learning.

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself in Florida, and that life since your return has (mostly) been good - sorry about Pumpkin's loss, that hurts.

cross-stitching is a lot of fun; I used to be obsessive about it, though since I got online my attention is mostly there, and I haven't stitched anything in ages. maybe I should get back to that someday soon

I really got into it because I watch some streams from my favorite youtubers, and the community is very funny and creative. Another user hooked me up with some advice and we're doing hilarious cross stitch projects for the December charity drive. It has become my go to thing now when I'm watching Netflix.
