2 cups confectioners sugar
2 cups water
1/2 lemon, sliced
1/2 orange, sliced
1/2 cup Cointreau
3 pints fresh whole strawberries, sliced
Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream
Begin by making a simple syrup. Combine sugar and water and cook over low heat until the mixture is clear. Remove from heat, add sliced lemon and orange. Let stand for one hour to cool. Strain through a fine sieve and chill. Add the Cointreau and stir well to distribute the liqueur evenly throughout the syrup. Pour the syrup over the berries and allow to marinate for an hour. Serve berries with a few tablespoons of syrup and whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
