batholith [n. BATH-eh-LIHTH]

A batholith is a large mass of rock that has solidified deep underground. It is formed when molten rock from even deeper down injects itself into existing solid formations, pushing them apart and often raising the surface layers, miles above.

The first part of the word, batho- comes from the Greek bathus (depth), and the second part, -lith, comes from the Greek lithos (stone).

Additional deep words:

Bathymetry: measurement of the depth of large bodies of water
Bathophobia: an abnormal fear of the depths
Bathysphere: a tethered, spherical chamber in which humans can explore the ocean down to 900 meters or so (3000 feet)
Bathyscaphe: an advanced deep-ocean exploration vehicle which is free-floating and maneuverable

Additional stony words:

Lithophyte: a plant that lives on rock
Lithiasis: pathological formation of mineral deposits in the body
Paleolithic: the earliest part of the prehistoric Stone Age
Mesolithic: the middle Stone Age
Neolithic: the most recent part of the Stone Age

I have this craving to make rice krispie treats. We have generic krispies and bags of marshmallows, and the sugary fluffy scent is driving me crazy.

The past few nights I've been having epic dreams, intense dramas inside behind the eyes. I attribute it to the increased dosage of medication and just my own strangeness. Last night involved lots of manic driving, chasing, and strange symbols spray painted on buildings. It's like a comic book in there. Better I suppose than the panic that froze me last night and the way I could feel my blood pulsing through my body. Even nightmares are better than that.

Though they aren't really nightmares, just strange... I don't know what to call them.

Stayed up late in Metro last night, reading my books and writing a little bit. Thinking I want to write a small piece on how I can drive my car better than so many people in my way in Austin. Vaguely amusing only to me. Kim, my favorite red haired coffee bar girl always seems to put on cds I enjoy. I love that girl.

Played Shanghai rummy with my roommates, Erin and Clayton. Including the Go and Chess playing boys, we managed to take over the whole front window section upstairs, hahaha. Erin and I played multiple variations of gin afterwards, which is the only worthwhile card game in my opinion. Last night I saw lots of those damn provisional students, taking up all the couches and pretending to be cool. One person per couch is not acceptable!! Stupid kids.
