I did a crazy thing today. I bought a brand new laptop.

Fujitsu Lifebook, with a superfast processor and an enormous hard drive. Many USB ports and all kinds of nice little pieces of hardware. All in a silvery shiny case. For a very decent price. I put up half the money and charged the rest.

I've never bought something without knowing I had the money to pay for it at the end of the money. It's been a matter of personal pride with me, to avoid debt and always pay the bill. But after months without a computer of my own, trying to work around on various machines with various people, I've realized how integral to my life this machine is.

So I'll rack up some interest on my card. But I am determined to have this payed off in the next three months. I will pay as much as I can on the next couple months and use Christmass money to finish it off. The interest charges are outweighed by the benefits of being functional again.

So hurrah. A lovely new laptop. I can hardly believe it is mine. I picked it up at Fry's today, where the salesman was quite pleasant.

Going to babysit Hana's boys this evening. Should be lots of fun. Meanwhile, I'm going to enjoy my new machine.

Oh how much better I feel with a computer again. It's delightful. I can read the New York Times and the Washington Post again everyday.

The Texas-OU game is on. Melynda must be furious. She's screaming her lungs out, I imagine.

Sitting here with wet hair, noticing how cold it is outside. The front came through last night and it dropped quite fast. I like the cold air and bright sunlight, the crisp feeling. Heightened awareness of the breath, the blood, being alive. Now to just stay semi-warm would be good. My feet get so cold. Oh yes, I have slippers! My beautiful red and blue velvety slippers from Bata shoes. Czech house shoes.

Downloading the Weatherbug, fixing up my electronic home. The battery is almost completely charged. Just getting used to the keybaord now. Never thought I would own such a machine.

Think I should get Photoshop and start making myself new icons. Or even work on my anthropology labs. So many possibilities.

Leaving Hana's this evening, the goblin moon hung golden and enormous over the hills. Gorgeous, this beautiful night. Drove with the windows down and a cigarette in my hand, cold hair blowing my hair. Sometimes as the road twisted, the mon would drop behind the trees, reappearing ahead of me silent and awesome.

I wonder why it seems so low in the sky. Why everything does these days. The ceiling of my world has shrunk down, and I am sad for that. The sky should be endless and free. Hopeful.

Hana gave me dinner, spaghetti and eleven bean soup. I don't think I've ever eaten so many beans at once, quite a tasty soup. Played Connect Four and Heroes of Might & Magic III with Christopher and Patrick. They're pretty good kids. I'm glad I picked up a computer today and recieved Hana's email.

Called the police again on my neighbors, the noise is unbelievable. Inconsiderate bastards.

Going to drink strawberry soda and hopefully go to bed soon.
