the long day
Oct. 8th, 2001 11:29 pmTurned in my Czech homework this morning. First exam in my Ancient Egypt class. Thank heavens for Professor Nethercut. He's such a funny, fascinating man. I want him to be my third grandfather.
Talked with Clockwork at Metro today, always fun. It's so pleasant to sit in there and talk to someone I don't live with. I tried to talk him into seeing Akira at midnight, but his girlfriend was coming home tonight from visiting her family.
I think I smoked too much today. All wired and restless. That is gone, drained out of me by a hellish buy shift at work. I spent an hour and a half on one set of books, and didn't even finish. Oh it was not fun. We had so much stuff come in, and people were getting rude. With less than ten minutes til close I had several customers with large purchases and paperwork, which is so frustrating. Add a man who wouldn't leave even when we announced the store was closed, and it was such a pain.
The best part of today was the man on Guadalupe, out in front of the Co-op. Of indeterminate age, with short dark hair, in a blue shirt and jeans, holding a posterboard sign written in red, white and blue that read 'Eat More Meat.' He would randomly shout, "I am peacefully supporting my country!" "Eat more meat!" "God bless America!" Sometimes he would play the refrain from When the Saints Go Marching In on a harmonica. Truly a unique sight. Many people responded positively to him, even a passing pair of police officers, and I didn't see any hecklers. I should have shook his hand, and thanked him for bringing a smile to my face.
So, eat more meat I shall. Have a hamburger, a steak, a hotdog, a porkchop this week.
