retreat of discernment
Dec. 1st, 2001 02:10 pmToday I felt as if I was providing some help to Wendy on her journey. A point of reference, some guidance, shared experience. We talked about how certain things struck us because of the distinct vocabularies in our heads, and how learning to move into new meanings helps. An excellent morning.
Part of the retreat focused on different methods of prayer, which is a helpful experience. I like the friendliness of the Church in encouraging one to pray in the manner one feels most open to. We discussed Taize music, the rosary and meditative prayer this morning, trying out a bit of each. I now have a turquoise plastic rosary which I think I will keep in my car. Picked up one for Melynda too.
Speaking of Melynda, she and Erin managed to get tickets to the game in Dallas somehow. They are on the road right now I imagine. She promised to call me when we score.
Driving home, through the shadows on the road. It's strange to think clouds can throw shadows, and I look up to see the grey underneath the white streaks. Perriwinkle blue today. Naming the colors on the sky is one of my favorite habits. So many blackbirds out today, in the trees and on the grass.
Going to bake cookies today. Chocolate Almond Truffle cookies. A pound of butter, a pound of chocolate, lots of almonds and sugar. Delicious. I need someone to come help me taste them.
