new york, new york
May. 24th, 2002 05:23 pmPeppermint lifesavers and a kiss goodbye got me safely here.
New York is nice at this time of year. Not hot, not cold. Streets full of people. I talked with the security guard in Russian at the Metropolitan, and he showed me where all the enormous pieces of Tiffany glass were.
Reive lives in a nice building, with solid concrete walls and a doorman. I sat outside earlier, smoking and reading Nabokov, and smiled at a man who bore an uncanny resemblence to Harvey Keitel. I spent most of my afternoon wandering the Met, counting the owls on all the Egyptian exhibits and admiring the rapiers. I need a sword, and I need to practice.
Last night we wandered Brooklyn, stopping for heavenly cupcakes at Magnolia Bakery and ending up in this dark piano bar. It was amazing, the number of people who sang with such voices... there was one, an older black man who sang like a god. The piano playing boy has that charm you find in Brit school boys, and I would like to kidnap him for Reive. I met many people I have only read of, Velma and Soren and Megan and Kat. Velma gave me my first birthday present of the year, a cd by one of the piano players. She had a lovely voice.
The cats are my newest friends.

Stop thinking about whether or not everyone else is having a good time and think about what makes you happy. You should only make time for the things you think will be fun right now, Gemini. Grab the best things or people that you can find, or be overwhelmed by the rest. There are too many new, exciting things to fit into your shrinking block of quality time. The easy way out is to accept someone else's idea of wonderful.
