The world is covered in ice.
My hands are cut all over from scraping the ice off my mother's Ford. I could not open the door to get in, so I finally had to pop the back window to crawl inside, and kick the door open that way. I spent about 45 minutes warming the engine and clawing the ice off the windshield with a bit of plastic. The drive home was long.
Melynda picked me up, before we learned that my office would close tonight and there would be no work. We decided instead to pick up some food and cigarettes. HEB was a madhouse, crowded with frightened Texans who think the world is ending. The warmest it has gotten is 26 degrees, and it is supposed to rain again tonight.
The world will end in ice.
So I'm ensconced at the apartment with Gene and Melynda, and we have soup, crackers, fruit roll-ups, hotdogs, soda, and orange juice. We will watch movies, play video games, and be warm. And not drive anywhere.
