I taught Alan to play Spite & Malice tonight, which may have been an unwise choice. He won his first game, and it currently one ahead of me after the nine we played tonight. It's a large part of luck and a bit of skill, not unlike poker.

We walked in the rain to Metro, over wet pavement, under the orange tower. It was a good day.

The score now stands at 6-5 in favor of Alan. I suppose we'll be in our seventies one day, cursing and still counting games. Break from this to play Shanghai rummy tonight, and be social.

My screen is full of blinking windows. Alan beat ZOE this afternoon, and even on the easy level it was still pretty brutal. We want orbital frames. With lasers. And vector cannons. I'm trying to imagine what a couple of those would do to regional conflict.

Giant lizard terrorises Beirut. How often do you see a headline like that on the BBC?
