Meier's got a thing for books. All the boy ever tells me he wants is a library of his own, walls of books. Every time I scroll past another LJ entry with a book meme or survey or poll I feel his eyes focus for a moment on that, trying to drink up another world of experience. We're listening to the cd Rachel burned for me and pretending not to be here. Brett made me hiccup earlier, I was laughing too hard. I tried to set the ashtray on fire, but it didn't work.
It's getting colder outside, and one day they might turn off the air conditioning in here. My hands go numb when the vent is pointed in this direction. You might think I'm kidding, except for the people layered in sweatshirts and jackets all round the office. I get coffee to stay warm.
Everyone is nervous about the merger with TransAmerica. There are closed door meetings, the smell of secrecy, whispers of relocation, India, offices in New Jersey, quota raising, hiring, layoffs, everything under the sun. The SEC inquest is ongoing from what I understand, though it seems quite clear this company is hell bent on monopolizing the market.
Strange how we have a record breaking year, amazing profits and they still take every chance they can to screw us out of more. I was informed this evening that next week during our quarterly meeting, the same one we have been forced to participate in with this ridiculous food competition, we will be taken off the clock. Taken off the clock for a work related even we are required to participate in, if that makes sense. I'm furious about it, and the constant treatment of the second shift as second class. How much am I tempted to send an email to every single person in this entire company voicing my frustrations...
My lower back pains me, I'm depressed by the constant frustrations of time and money, and I would like to go home now. Alan's there, sick and worn out even though it is only Tuesday. Twenty more minutes and I can fly down the highway, talk to the sorceror and chainsmoke.
