We drove out to Bryan for Christmas with Alan's family. They open presents on Christmas eve, in the German tradition. There were some wedding presents to open, and Christmasy things for us. New sheets, a wok set, real cutting boards, a fire safe for our valuables and papers, coffee, a heavy skillet, and various other good things. My mom put chocolate covered espresso beans in my stocking, and a giant box of junior mints. I also have a sparkly stuffed unicorn now too. Yay.
Alan's big present to me was a wand! Voldemort's wand to be specific. It's fun to play with. He also bought me much cucumber melon soap. I am a happy girl.
We're tired. But it's good. On the drive last night we saw many little farmhouses with lights all over, and the pies survived the trip. They key lime came out exceptionally well, nicely tart. Alan set up the surround sound system for his parents. We drove around and saw his uncles donkeys. I have decided donkeys are odd, stolid creatures.
A really lovely card came from Cate in the mail the other day. I feel bad for not mailing cards this year, but next year I'll be more together.
