Slept poorly, waking every hour or so during the night. Dreamed about a giant vanilla bean, for reasons unknown to me. Had lunch with my father, which was good. Friendly rockabilly waiter at Threadgills with lots of tattoos, chicken fried steak sandwich and fried okra and iced tea. Gave my father some books. Came home, put some laundry in the machine. Alan's been asleep since I got home last night.

One of the joys of the high speed internet would be movie trailers. Get some Quicktime and a fast connection, right now.

Appleseed in CGI! A friend linked to this today, and I can't wait to see it.

Remember the Alamo I will probably have to see this, as I am a Texan and my friend Richard took a month off work to be an extra in this movie. One can only hope it's good.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse This is the smartest, coolest trailer I've seen in ages. We first saw it in the theater and thought Clinique was running ads in the middle of the trailer block.

The Chronicles of Riddick Okay, I don't care about Vin Diesel, but this could be fun.

Spiderman 2 Dr Octo looks so cool. I can't wait for this.

Ghost in the Shell: Innocence This makes me want to hop up and down and shout, "That looks so bad ass!" Really, it does.

New York City, by They Might Be Giants

"Cause everyone's my friend
in New York City
And everything looks beautiful
When you're young and pretty"

I remember singing this song in cars in high school, when we were at our most carefree.

I am quietly freaking out at my desk. My pride keeps me from asking to leave early, so I'll just skip lunch and go home as soon as my eight hours are over.

We had a meeting at 6pm with the head of our division. In brief, night shift as it stands will be phased out over the next few months. They're going to start closing the office at midnight, and then 10pm. Everyone's schedule will be redone, all groups and management will be switched around, etc. There will be overlapping groups of people at work, though how they will arrange that with the number of desks on the floor and the number of employees is beyond me.

It's thrown everyone in the office into a panic.

While it could eventually be a good thing for me and Alan, in terms of working a more normal schedule, it's too soon to know. It's clearly a bad thing for a lot of people here who work night shift because of children or school or other jobs. One of my coworkers is so royally screwed by this that there are no words. Others are looking at hundreds of dollars they don't have going to childcare. Anyone who can't fit into this new arrangment will have to go.

I held my tongue and only asked if that meant another reshuffling of accountabilities for everyone. Our jobs will change significantly. I didn't ask how much they are paying the India office.

Fuck.

I was making an effort to combat my recent moodiness, to deal with my stress more calmly, to be a little more laid back about life. Almost had it within my grasp. Right now I can feel my blood pressure rising.

The ice cream machine on the second floor is broken. All the ice cream treats are melting.

I am so freaked out.

Orson Scott Card on gay marriage

I'm speechless. It's one of the most bizarre right wing screeds I've seen yet. I can't even summarize the more horrific points.

Oh Orson. I think about how much I liked your books when I was younger, and how utterly hurt and furious I am made by this essay. Goodbye, and go get fucked.
