May. 30th, 2004 04:31 pmMy mother and my sister both gave me birthday gifts today, and some cake, and fresh produce from my mom's garden. I ate the world's smallest strawberry, which happened to be quite lovely. My sister gave me some flowers, including a very blue and interesting rose. She lost of all her cds in a string of car robberies in the neighborhood this week, so we commiserated over the loss of our music. She gave me the Guns N Roses greatest hits cd. That is by far the most amusing gift I've recieved. My mother gave me a bunch of coffee scented candles, so our home will smell caffienated. I like that idea.
Alan and I worked out at the gym, and I did more crunches in one sitting than I have ever done. Ouch. My stomach weeps, but it had better adjust. Thirty minutes of cardio exhaustion went by much faster than usual, and I did much lifting of small weights to reprimand my arm muscles for growing soft. They will make me pay tomorrow.
We walked around Barnes & Noble for awhile, my gift card burning a hole in my wallet. I could not find a single book about Charles II or the Stuarts. After watching The Last King and Rufus Sewell's brilliant performance, I am filled with a desire to learn a bit more about that time period. Instead I bought a historical novel about the Tudor queens, and some other period reading for the summer. Now that we have books and video games, it is time for virtuous laziness.
