(no subject)

My grandparents live in Daphne, Alabama which is not far from Mobile. They have a nice house in the middle of a golf course, elevated just enough to stay out of the flood plain. I've only been there once, almost ten years ago.

This also happens to be directly in the path of the hurricane.

My grandparents, along with countless neighbors, were determined to wait it out in their homes. I called yesterday after reading evacuation orders had been issued for their county. So now I'm just waiting, to hear from them or my mother. It makes me uneasy, waiting.

Bevo

I donated money as an alumnus of the university for the first time today. $25 towards the Bevo Endowment Fund that is being established by the Silver Spurs. It will fund future care of the retiring Bevos, and go towards the Neighborhood Longhorns program and scholarships. It makes me happy, I suppose, to feel like I'm still somehow a part of the university.

My grandparents are alright. Most of the storm surge went west instead of east. The trees are flattened, and they don't have any power. But they are okay. Now if they would just get out of there to somewhere with reliable phone service.... I'm intensely relieved, and thankful for the kind words from friends.
