first impressions and an unexpected joy
Jan. 18th, 2005 04:36 pmToday was a short day. (I love working for the state aready, that they turn me loose two hours early because I have "homework" that involves looking up word definitions.) the morning was consumed with HR paperwork and insurance and such, though I really wish I had more time to go over it before I signed. I need to talk to Alan tonight about the insurance thing anyhow, and fill out my direct deposit paperwork.
A nice girl named Christy shared her sandwich with me, and we talked about job hunting and college. There were several people in the group who just moved into town. our afternoon was spent assigning schedules, getting orkbooks and learning what all would be involved in our training. It's a rigorous training program, at least to my eye, and that makes me exceedingly pleased.
the best part of the whole day was that I stayed afterwards to talk with Nike about some things. I had originally been assigned the Wednesday to Saturday overnights schedule, which I had pretty much resigned myself to working. but then a girl decided she couldn't work the shift she had recieved and switched to a different overnight because she commutes a long way into town. So nike turned around and offered me a new shift! Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 7pm! I must refrain from a big string of exclamation points, but yay! Yay yay yay!! A much more reasonable, fantastic shift!
I was so pleased I bought more pita chips on the way home. pita chips are my new favorite food. The ones I like are from regenies.com and I found them in the Braker HEB. Mmmm pita chips and yay new schedule!!!
