I broke down and finally purchased a new wireless card to replace the one that went kaput sometime late last year. After ten minutes of stupidity on my part, I finally connected to the network in Texpresso. Why I tried to do it the hard way I have no idea. But it works now and if it feels a little slow compared to my Grande, well. It's alright. The only major drawback is that I can't bloody smoke inside. It's freaking hot out there today. Heat shimmer before noon is a terrible thing.
Yesterday I helped my mother move some furniture. She's having an ordeal with the floor install. I'll rant about that later. Suffice to say it is all evil. At least the floor tiles look nice. It makes the house feel different.
Today I scrubbed the bath tub. It was nice.
Last night I went to dinner with my father at the Melting Pot. It's a swanky fondue restaurant. I like the design, with smaller rooms and booths set up so you don't really see many other patrons. It's dim. The food is extremely tasty, and a bit too expensive for my budget. But really lovely. We had the big night out, four courses of deliciousness. First the spinach and artichoke cheese fondue with bread, vegetables and green apple chunks. It was one of the best spinach artichoke dips ever. Then we had salads while the main course was readied. We got a large platter with tiger shrimp, filet mignon, marinated sirloin, chicken and pork tenderloin to cook in a bubbling pot of coq au vin style. There was also a selection of vegetables, and the mushrooms were absurdly tasty with the green goddess sauce. They also had a perfect cocktail sauce and one made of port and gorgonzola. It was amazingly good stuff.
For dessert we had dark chocolate and marshmallow flambe with strawberries, marshmallows, cheesecake, pound cake, pineapples, bananas and brownie bits. It was the best damn dessert I've had in a very long time. I may go back just to eat dessert over and over. Hah! My father and I had a pretty good time.
Later I had drinks with Tyler in a dive bar. I love dive bars and over the top European discoteques. They make me happy. We saw Batman Begins at the Alamo late in the evening. They ran hilarious old Batman clips from the early shows. The Drafthouse is having some crazy fun events this summer including a showing of Office Space with a live office equipment demolition. Rock!
We saw previews for Serenity, a new Charlies & The Chocolate Factory trailer, and a trailer for what looks like a hilariously entertaining The Brothers Grimm. I really need to see more movies.
Anyhow, Batman. Despite some frantic, hard to follow camera work that left me pressing my head back into my seat and blurred some of the most exciting action sequences, a very good film indeed. I love the colors, I love the atmosphere and cinematography. Christian Bale did an excellent job of being cool yet crazy Batman. Gary freaking Oldman - wow. You can't ever go wrong with him. Cilian Murphy is someone we need to see more of, and not just for those pretty eyes and girlish cheekbones. He had the super creep vibe.
I really enjoyed the film, and it killed me that I couldn't rush home and make an LJ post. Beautiful, fun, requiring a moderate suspension of disbelief regarding microwave weapons, and an excellent summer movie.
