dental visit #1
Feb. 20th, 2006 01:44 pmSo I had my dentist consult today. They did a million billion x-rays and photos. At least they have some new fancy digital xray set up so there's less radiation. The place looks like some ritzy salon and is very colorful. I have to say that's nice after so many doctor visits that involved grim grey and white offices.
The dentist man is very nice, very friendly. He's that kind of slightly older man that I crush on, with nice hands and an easy laugh. The support staff were all very calm and took great pains to reassure me throughout the appointment. They even have a person who comes to massage and hold your hand while they poke around in your mouth.
The verdict is seven cavities. Damn. Fortunately a large portion of those are fairly small. I have two teeth that will either need to get crowns, root canals or get pulled. Lucky for me they are back teeth, so at least I won't look like a junkie losing teeth. They seemed extremely shocked that I've never had a professional cleaning but they did say my teeth were fairly white. They do a lot of cosmetic dental work so one day in the future after all this crap is taken care of maybe I can make my teeth perfect. Thank god they are straight at least.
The really bad part is that it looks like I have problems with my jaw. As in, I could need surgery sort of problems. We're not going to deal with that right now. Fuck. I don't even want to think about it. It's not really lined up properly, and it could cause more awful problems down the line. At least it isn't immediate.
So Thursday I'm going in to discuss options for sedation and what kind of ativan prescription I'll get. Delightful. We're also going to talk numbers and determine how much this will set me back. We'll make a plan of how much to do at once, and set the appointment for all the grim business.
I managed not to cry until I got home. Minor victory.
