I don't play that much! Seriously, I play a couple hours during the week and several on the weekends. I don't run home to immediately play. ;)

Oh I have to say emeralds because they are so very green and beautiful. Some of the ones int eh Natural History museum could suck your soul right out. But of things I could actually afford? I love garnets. They make me think of wine, and Prague.

4) What is the one song you think everyone should listen to?

Matinee, by Franz Ferdinand. It has to be one of the most sexy, delightful songs I've heard in ages. I always turn it up loud and sing along.

If a kid is diagnosed as oppositional defiant with sociopathic tendencies, he doesn't qualify for any special education or psychiatric services at school because "these are conditions that are not thought to be responsive to remediative services." What the fucking fuck people? So Junior is a sociopath in training who is self mutilating and killing animals, but he's not responsive to remediative services?!?! We just turn the little bastards loose and hope they shoot up a liquor store instead of a school full of white kids cause who the hell cares when the ethnic shop owner gets gunned down. Never mind about his siblings or family members he might kill. Fuck that.

When that came across my desk today, I nearly kicked my computer.

It's been a crazy day. I blame the storms. I've had to make multiple calls to law enforcement to check on suicidal people and other less fortunate folks across the state. At least during that I got to talk to one of those small town, accented officers who says m'am and laughs with you about the absurdity of criminals. It's easier to deal with when you have one of those guys on your side. I love them all.

Today has been one of those days where all this gets dumped in my lap. I've dealt with the things I can control, and the situations beyond will just have to hover. Much as I want to drive across the country and sucker punch a certain person in the face, I can't. That person should be glad they are not within my reach, or the reach of my law enforcement friends. Because down here, we don't stand for that kind of shit. Down here, we take care of our friends and we don't take advantage of their kindness. Down here, we might just take you out into the land of coyotes and turkey buzzards.

There was this tremendous sound, like an explosion. All the lights went off, plunging the house into darkness. Everything was spectral and ghostly in the next burst of lightning. All the power crashed, the cable went dead and I was sitting here frozen at my desk in complete blackness. Suddenly there was the rapid fire crack of hailstones slamming into the patio doors, and I nearly shrieked. It was more than a little unnerving. I managed to fumble around and find my cell phone, and using the screen light found my purse. More stumbling around found the cigarettes and candles. The power has finally come back on, along with the cable. Lots of purple and red on the radar. I think I'm going to just go curl up in bed.

It was really, really damned dark. All the street lights crashed out too.
