heat shimmer
May. 1st, 2006 06:34 pmAfter a couple weeks of starting and stopping half a dozen books, I finally broke down and went to Half Price. I picked up Dvorak in Love by Skvorecky, The Onion Girl by Charles de Lint, and A second chance at Eden by Peter Hamilton. I keep thinking I'm out of touch with modern literature, but when I start looking at it I get the hives and gag. At least Bret Easton Ellis was honestly pretentious and vicious about his writing.
I also picked up a cherry coke slurpee today, and did some grocery shopping. The ground shimmered in the afternoon heat, and I watched a woman in a Lexus almost smash head on into a concrete barrier. I don't get the Lexus drivers. The cars must have excellent brakes.
I failed to see anything substantially disrupted by immigrant protest day.
