I couldn't say enough to express how frustrating the calls have been today. Thank heavens I'm not taking any more before I go home. Seventeen calls is more than enough. I actually did nineteen cases today because there were two doubles mixed in there. The downside of being a busy worker bee is that you get more of the craziness. Oh well. At least good numbers mean I get opportunities to do new things.

I have been avoiding the news, largely because I dread the moment when we announce that we're bombing the hell out of Syria for sending rockets to Lebanon. (Never mind that we supply a large chunk of the Israeli weapons.) Iraq too has been a sepctacular clusterfuck in recent days. I'm starting to think that awful crack I make about the entire Middle East becoming a sea of glass with oil derricks on top isn't too far off. Harpers has an interesting article about the oil peak people who say that when production falls off and oil becomes scarce the world is going to devolve into Mad Max style apocalypse. Time to buy a farm, and learn how to make your own shoes. The suburbs is where the real hell will be.

I live in the suburbs, but I've never really thought of it. Suburbs to me always seemed like those big box blank housing tracts outside of the city limits. But I guess we really are suburbs. I live on the northern side of town, what once used to be way far north and is now just sort of north centralish. It's strange.

My eyes are tired, tired, tired. I look forward to training this week. One of my trainees, Lily, had a rough first day a few weeks back. I think I spent mroe time helping her than doing my own stuff that day. She brought me a bunch of Reese's as a thank you, which was very sweet. Another trainee greeted me in the smoking corner with "my favorite peer trainer!" Aww. I know, that's really silly but the two things made me feel fabulous today. I like teaching and training far more than one might suspect.

I'm tempted to write an article for AC on sneaky ways to make desserts using certain prepackaged items in tandem with things you make yourself. I have no problem doing that, but my elitest self cringes. Food snobs would rain scorn on me for not making my own pie crusts. But I tell you, I did a market research study on those refrigerated crusts several years ago when they were still in test runs, and they are pretty decent. I've even had people ask if they were hand made.

One of the supervisors who sits near me is an odd duck but alright. He shares a geeky fondness for Lord of the Rings, so sometimes we exchange a little pointless conversation about hobbits. Today he gave me a page to put up at my desk that has a picture of Frodo and Sam on Mount Doom, and the elvish lyrics to a song from the book. It was a funny, random moment of kindness in an unkind day. Makes me want to go home and watch the movies. My copy of Fellowship is *still* missing, and that makes me sad.
