Luby's is one of the handful of places open on Thanksgiving, and it is by far the cheapest one you could get. I showed up at 11am when they opened, and there was already a line out the door. A lot of families, elderly couples, young couples, and a few solitary beings like me. I must have looked a little forlon, as the counter lady heaped more macaoni on my plate than I think I've ever had. It almost covered up my fish rectangle. The thing about Luby's is that the busier it is, the better. My food was better than usual I think. There was also a huge line at the takeout operation. I contemplated getting food to go, but Luby's tastes best on their heavy silverware with those cloth napkins.

Originally I planned to spend Thanksgiving over at my mother's house. But she's extremely sick, and didn't want me to come over to catch whatever it is. Both my mother and my sister have it, and my mother lost seven pounds in the course of about 24 hours. She sounds pretty miseable, and exactly like the way I sound when I'm sick.

The weather is unbelievable, like Indian summer a month late. It's seventy four degrees, with abig blue sky and a light breeze. I wore flip flops and a tshirt when I left the house. Yesterday when I parked my car at work, I saw a red tail hawk swoop over the building. For about ten minutes I stood out in the parking lot, looking almost straight up. The bird circled and floated almost directly over me in tight little spirals. It was perhaps an incredibly beautiful thing, reminding me of American Beauty and the bag in the wind.
