ducks, ice cream, mad max and rammstein
Mar. 25th, 2007 09:36 amYesterday I slept late, showered and was lazy. I ate lunch outside of Whole Foods, and sat in car near the duck pond wondering what to do. Sarah called, as she was going to "study" at the Green Muse. (What we mean by study is have a pile of books or notebooks sitting on the table so it looks like we might have done some studying if we weren't talking. This was true of all my last few years of college, especially if there were cards on the table.)
So we "studied" for a bit on the patio. It was a pretty nice day, if a trifle humid. We rolled our eyes at some ridiculous hipsters. Delicious caffiene was consumed in tall glasses. Sarah's in the roughest part of any degree program, but I think it must be amplified when we're talking about graduate school. It is difficult to watch your friends go through this sort of stress and feel helpless to do anything concrete about it.
What you can do is suggest ways to make the day better. My usual suggestions of robbing diners and setting things on fire were not accepted. But since it was so lovely, I suggested we visit the ducks at the Arboretum, and eat ice cream.
My gentleman friend Mike met us at the Arbor. He procured bread for throwing, and ice cream for eating. I was especially happy as Amy's is currently offering Peeps as a crushin! Mwuhahah. So I had Zilker mint chip with blue Peeps crushed into it. Delicious sugary marshmallows. Sarah had chocolate with M&Ms and Mike had some strange oatmeal butterscotch flavor.
Down at the pond, we located a suitably shady bench to observe the wildlife. (Mike called us wenches, and I forgot to hit him for that.) Sadly the ducks were not interested in our bread offerings. However - there are swarms of little fish in the pond that go crazy for bread. Watching them swarm and fight over bread pellets was vastly entertaining. I always forget that walking back up the hill is no fun. First I offered Sarah a wheelchair, but she countered with the suggestion of a nice nearly nude Spartan. So, I should look into what it will cost to purchase Gerard Butler for an afternoon.
My new sandals were killing my feet, so I swapped them out for old ones before the movie. We went down to the Alamo to see Master Pancake Theater's Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. Oh my god, I'd forgotten how bad it was. It was thoroughly enlivened by the tasteless and hilarious jokes from the MPT guys. Their skit was hilarious, even if I did see quite a lot of genitalia. (I think John must have a secret love for dressing up like Tina Turner and wearing tiny underwear, because this is a recurring theme.) They also had a dance trio, Stolen Moments, before hilarious interpretative dance. (This also involved mini trampolines.) It was one of the most awesome shows I've seen since they did Showgirls last year.
Mike's car suffered the wrath of grackles, and we tried to go to a car wash. The car wash failed twice which sincerely vexed us. He ended up hosing it off in the parking lot in the dark. (Which would have been funny, but you know, vexing.) The evening was finished with Rammstein videos, Dirty Jobs (omg, ostriches are scary) and Reno 911.
Predictably, yesterday was lake type weather and today is back to clouds. I am sorely perturbed. I think however, purchasing random gadgets and appliances at Fry's will have to make up for it.
It's okay though. I'm happy to be alive.
