Caramel and Toasted Coconut
Jul. 30th, 2007 08:20 pmOf late I have been lax in my journal keeping. I have a certain apathy towards writing about my day, or my feelings. It's strange. But perhaps I should not indulge in this laziness. A few days ago, Mike's rat She Who Hates Me died. It was not entirely unexpected. She had tumors, and was losing some of her fur. But she never seemed to be in pain, so I was unwilling to intervene. When I left for work on Saturday I noticed she was hiding in the tubes that run between the cages and had the feeling it was the end. I was sad, and the other rat Superfriend must be lonely.
Most every rat I've owned died of tumors. There was one who fell in the cage, had some kind of freak accident and died of a broken back. I remember crying on the phone to my friend Tracey, standing in the kitchen leaning against the bar by the garage door. It was the same place I would stand not much later when it was her to turn to call me in hysterics when her father dropped dead of a heart attack while jogging. I remember thinking it was strange to hear her crying when every other time she spoke about her father it was with loathing. Her parents were divorced, and her father abused all three girls.
We went to the pet store this evening and purchased a pair of rats. They are white and a pale toffee color. I named them Caramel and Toasted Coconut, to be known as Cara and Coco. They seem very friendly, and very inquisitive. We put them in the top cage and haven't connected the tubes yet. I am hoping Superfriend adjusts to them so they can all be friends.
Today I accomplished some things (getting my car inspected at 8am, doing two loads of laundry) and didn't get to others. Poor Tyler had to replace tires today. We played some WoW, and ate delicious burrito bowls for lunch. I sat in a nice leather chair I loved and cost way too much. I have this fantasy of big leather chairs for my library. My grandfather has gorgeous wingback leather armchairs, or used to, I don't know if he still does. I loved those things. I watched the Iran Contra hearings from those chairs.
Chairs I like:
Black Walnut - tradition club chair
Duchess Chair - I adore this chair. I wish it was mine.
Burgundy Leather - there's something wonderful about those nailheads.
Pirate Poppy - because red furniture is awesome.
I must continue shopping for chairs. I've been trolling Craigslist hoping for a happy bargain.
