key limes and pies and things
Mar. 13th, 2008 01:24 pmToday I spent almost an hour juicing key limes by hand and with a small paring knife. I forgot we didn't have any sort of juicing device. Argh. To make it all more difficult, I scraped my hand sometime at the gym, just a tiny place on my first knuckle. I managed several times to get juice right on my knuckle. But the pie is in the oven now. I'm debating making candied key lime bits to decorate with, and making a stencil of 3.14 so I can sprinkle colored sugar on the top.
Back to the gym this morning, where the session was harder. It's so enjoyable though.
coyotegoth asked when the last time I went camping occurred. I don't believe I have ever been camping. Sleeping on the ground has never appealed to me, nor a lack of shower facilities. Also, I am mildly allergic to grass and get freaked out by bugs. When I was about eight, I did spend the summer traveling through Arizona and Colorado with my grandparents. We stayed in a big silver Airstream trailer however, which seems less like camping.
halfacork wanted to know my thoughts on the Democratic primary race. I don't especially enjoy talking or writing about politics too often, as it quickly and inevitably frustrates me to the point of tears. I just get so angry about much of it because I care and my expectations of people are often dashed.
Initially my heart went to Edwards, as he was the only one willing to openly say discrimination against gay couples was wrong. I supported the Kerry/Edwards ticket in 2004. But as things went on, I knew it wasn't going to happen. Soon it turned into the Obama versus Clinton show. It was an interesting feeling. A female candidate and a black candidate in arguably the most important race in years. Exciting times. I am supporting Obama, for several reasons. The first is that I personally prefer to vote for a candidate who speaks in terms of hope than one who counsels fear. I find it sort of insane that Hilary Clinton has the gall to behave as if she is the more "experienced" politician, when both of them have served roughly the same amount of times as elected officials of the Legislature. I don't believe being the wife of a politician equates experience as a politician or somehow makes her more worthy. That's such a backwards argument for a woman who wants to be seen as accomplished in her own right and not just as Bill's stand by me gal.
