at least I can hear birds
Mar. 31st, 2008 05:36 pmMy head aches again, something I'm going to blame on the damp and the mimosa trees coming into bloom. They are the one thing I'm quite sure I am allergic to, and I hadn't noticed there is quite a large tree at the other end of the building. During the middle of the day it rained and there was some relief from the Houston-esque humidity.
Stephen & James' wedding was quite the thing. I cried when Stephen started to choke up because it was just so unlike the man I know. (One of the best men later joked that normally the only emotion we see Stephen choked up with is rage and the crowd exploded with laughter.) It was a beautiful ceremony, at once a traditional thing and at the same time very much a personal one. It was also a delicious celebration - we ate barbecue and lots of delicious cake. One of the cakes was shaped like Lego blocks and had Lego guys on top. The deep green frosting on the other cake was impressive and it was a more traditional stack of off-set polygons.
There was dancing, much dancing. We all watched Jorge & Erin dance, and they looked amazing. The look on her fiance's face was exquisite. She demanded Mike & I dance, so we did and to "Tainted Love" of all things. My Madden heels were killing me, so I spent a lot of the night barefoot. After cleaning up the reception space, Mike & I went to the hotel for a party with many of his friends from Oklahoma and Triangle. It was great fun to finally meet people of whom I have only heard stories. Listening to the duet of the Portal song was a highlight.
On Sunday I ended up sleeping for most of the day, trying to ward off the headache & hangover. I did get up to make hamburgers. Mike asked for lots of Mexican food this week, so my grocery purchases were things for tacos, tostadas, enchiladas and nachos. Mmm nachos. At some point I need to bake my cake. Mmmm cake. Right now though, I need to work on writing.
