women against Palin
Sep. 21st, 2008 10:39 amThere's a brilliant fund raising post going round the net lately, asking those opposed to Palin and her views to make a donation to Planned Parenthood in her honor, and have them send the card to the McCain/Palin campaign headquarters. It probably won't do much to change Palin's reactionary conservative views, but donating money to a group providing community services is always preferable to political donations in my book. I do hope she makes an awful frowny face when she gets those cards. Hah!
Another option I could suggest: Make a donation to Scarleteen of any amount, which provides sex education, support and answers for kids who may not have anywhere else to get the information. They are quite an amazing group, with no public funding or advertising of any kind. They cover topics from basic anatomy and the specifics of biology to relationships and self image. It's open, it is honest, it isn't judgmental and it serves a very real need in our communities. This is a place where people can learn they aren't crazy or weird or bad because of their bodies and hearts. This is a place where they can get information to help them make informed decisions without anyone's political pressure. That's what we all want right? For our children to grow up and make informed choices?
Donate to Scarleteen in Palin's honor, then pick up a a cheap postcard at the grocery store and mail it to the campaign headquarters. Let her know you don't support her.

Yesterday at Six Flags, I saw a girl wearing a shirt that read "Sarah Palin is my Homegirl." I don't know if it was meant to be ironic. I briefly thought about trying to find out, but we know that probably would have ended up with someone getting punched in the nose.
National Instruments had their annual Family Day celebration at Six Flags, where they took over the park. It is really the only way to deal with an amusement park, as I can't fathom standing in hour long lines to ride a 45 second roller coaster. Not that I ride roller coasters anyhow - I'm more of a carousel person. It stays on the ground. The best part of the day was eating funnel cakes covered in powdered sugar. Mike won one of those silly carnival games filling a cup of water to get himself a Batman cape, and he won me a funny looking stuffed dolphin at another. I can't seem to get away with walking anywhere without developing blisters on the backs of my heels, which is annoying.
My oven is on self clean mode, which is possibly the greatest thing ever. I need to poke around at some chores, but I think today will be a lazy day.
