yuletide recs
Dec. 27th, 2008 09:54 pmI spent a lot of today reading stuff from this year's Yuletide fic extravaganza. There are a lot lot lot of stories, and many great ones. I am deeply saddened by lack of Metalocalypse fic, though I am convulsed with hilarity by some of the stuff on there. So I bring you a small list of favorites.
Linger Luminous - Aeon Flux. Remember how all the shorts ending with her death? That's what this story makes me think about.
Election Day - Arrested Development. This story reads like an episode script, and makes me miss the show a lot.
Not Undead, Just Not Dead - The Big Lebowski. A conversation between the Dude and Donny, post death.
Duck Soup - Brick. Quite long, and quite good. It has the same frenetic, noir shaded feel to it as the film did, a mouthful of words spit out like broken teeth in the school parking lot. Absolutely awesome.
Libera Me - Constantine. John Constantine is exorcising demons in Gotham, and Batman thinks he is crazy. This is surprisingly good, surprisingly raw. Quite an excellent story, set in the dark world.
Obedience - Eastern Promises. I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of stories about this movie and I think this is the best one. Or at least my favorite. (Graphic sexual language)
I Corinthians 13 - Swordspoint. Another story with a lot of stories to it, and my favorite of the lot. It is sparse and elegant.
I Am Jack's Christmas Tree - Fight Club. Dear lord what can I say other than "I am Jack's Christmas Tree?" Totally, wonderfully, wickedly good. I love it.
1983 - Portal. Oh my oh my there's Portal fic! This one is riotously good, because did you know all Companion Cube wants is to go home to its family and have cake? WHY ARE YOU SO MEAN TO COMPANION CUBE?
