Let the Right One In
Last night we saw Let the Right One In at the Drafthouse. If this movie is playing somewhere near you - go immediately. This one of the most unique, haunting stories I've ever seen. It is a Swedish film, full of snow and darkness and that terrible age of twelve years old. The special effects for the more supernatural aspect of the story are incredibly subtle, increasing their potency. The boy playing one of the lead roles has this peculiar glazed expression at times - it is magnificent. This is a movie that seems timeless - I can imagine seeing it fifty years from now and still feeling every exquisitely wrought moment.
One of the other things about last night that made it spectacular was a new message onscreen before the film. The Drafthouse usually runs hilarious short videos warning you not to talk through the movie. (Ann Richards will take your ass out) There are several awesome videos, including one with Chuck Norris. After the video a black screen with white text came up. It said in gigantic letters that the theater was now a "QUIET ZONE" and no talking was permitted. Ir advised that talkers would be given one warning, then ejected without a refund. I almost wept tears of joy. It was dead silent, haha. SO MUCH LOVE FOR THE QUIET ZONE!
