Leaving the house a little before 9am, it was in the mid 80s and already feeling wretched outside. Getting to the airport was uneventful, as was the security line for a change. We ate breakfast tacos and waited to board. Only a couple crying, whining kids (but sheeee started it!) and a plethora of hipsters. Seeing the actual smog of LA was kind of creepy. The entire city was covered in a miasma underneath the clouds. Yikes.

No one warned me that LAX was a giant bucket of fail. First there was the shuffling from bus to bus to get to a different terminal for our connection, booting LA right to the top of my Most Hated Domestic Airport list. (Sorry Atlanta you're number 2 now.) They made us swelter in a green house for ten minutes waiting for a second shuttle, because the first guy wasn't going to drive all the way to the third terminal. Then we entered this circular mess where Alaska airlines was set up, with no clue where to find our flight.

Then there were the people - more Botox faces and weirdness than I've ever seen outside of TV. Also, LEGGINGS ARE NOT PANTS. EVER. Even if you tie a shirt around your waist, they are still not pants. Also, why is LAX so dingy?

Alaska airlines made up for things with reasonably comfortable seats, their selection on Jones Sodas and picnic lunches. Normally I never buy airplane food, but these were awesome. The Anytime Picnic Pack had all this good food. I made little almond butter and strawberry preserve cracker sandwiches.

The Seattle airport was far nicer to see. Melynda picked us up, and the temperature outside could have made me cry. It was 71 degrees. 71! After a shower I felt like I scrubbed the stink of close contact with the general public off and we spent lots of time playing with Zoe the Wonder Dog. She is very excitable. It made me miss the kitties, who are probably lonely without us.

Dinner with Melynda and Truong at Icon Grill was excellent. There was strawberry lemonade, always a plus and Mike had this combination of a vanilla latte with a vodka martini. I had warm grilled pear salad: Spicy, Wild and Creamy! Hardwood grilled and spice kissed pears with spicy pecans, wild greens and creamy Oregon bleu cheese. Tossed in a sweet but vibrant pomegranate vinaigrette. It was a really, really good salad. Then there was seafood linguine in a roasted red pepper cream sauce with fish and shrimp and scallops. Melynda and I split a gigantic hot fudge sundae in a cookie bowl with strawberries, toasted almonds, whipped cream and tiny M&Ms. SO so delicious.

Then there was shanghai rummy and sleep and it was good.
