Trying to write an LJ update has been a struggle. I find myself feeling like it's pointless for one reason or another, or lose motivation three sentences forward. So my eventful week is woefully under chronicled.

I traded in my car. I'd actually been thinking about doing this when my I finished paying it off in the coming months anyhow, but my dealership is closing early next year. (The Saturn techs are moving into the Buick building, so they can still work on my car.) I feel sort of guilty in this nebulous way. A lot of thought later, it comes down to the car being sort of the last connection to a different life and a weird transitional point. Also being somewhat impulsive. So really it is a good thing. I have a new car, with tinted windows and comfortable seats and lots of room. So maybe we can do road trips.

The Dethklok show on Friday was excellent. We lucked out with parking, with not having to wait too long in line and with finding a decent vantage point on the upper level. Is the new thing patting people down like airport security at shows? That was sort of weird. We saw a guy dressed full on as Dr Rockzo, which was both fabulous and terrifying. Mike and I laughed every time we saw kids with their parents, and there were several who looked like they might be eight years old, MAX. Who is letting their eight year old watch Metalocalypse? Really? It's kind of violent and creepy for the elementary age set. I don't think you can really appreciate all the references if you aren't a little older, like the hilarious episodes involving Snakes & Barrels. I say this as a person who read a lot of material far in advance of my actual age and watched a lot of movies probably not entirely appropriate. Going back to those things as I grew up, I was disappointed that I missed so much in the initial round. (Oh Heinlein, reading you when I was eight probably was better though.)

Dethklok was awesome. Mastadon had great guitar, but seemed to attract some douchebag fans. But really, I was there to see Dethklok and they played all my favorite songs. The video for the Gear anthem is excellent. They played the Fan Song at the end, which was a nice touch.

Last night we went down to the Ritz to see Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, and John Krasinski was there to answer a few questions and introduce the film. It always warms the cockles of my heart when someone talks about their first trip to Austin and how wonderful it is. He was so passionate about the novel this is based on, and it was so interesting to watch. I've never been a huge fan of David Foster Wallace's work, but I think maybe I will give it another go. If you get a chance to see this movie, you really should.

Going out to the concert and the show afforded us ample opportunity to watch the people in what passes for nightlife here. I almost fell over laughing when I saw the stripper school graduation party, including a girl wearing leather chaps over fishnets. There was also someone wearing a dress I swear got someone sent home on Project Runway. Why, why, why must we take the worst of fashion and wear it out?

LEGGINGS ARE NOT PANTS! I really am going to make some stickers and start slapping people with them.

Last night we also stopped by Stacy's birthday, which had delicious food and bad movie madness. I sadly did not get to stay long enough for delicious cake and pie, but otherwise it was awesome.
