A bill passed by the Utah House and Senate this week and waiting for the governor's signature, will make it a crime for a woman to have a miscarriage, and make induced abortion a crime in some instances.
"For all these years the anti-choice movement has said ‘we want to outlaw abortion, not put women in jail, but what this law says is ‘no, we really want to put women in jail.'"
As bad as Texas may be, I would just like to say Utah has one upped us with this bit of fuckery. Way to be assholes, Utah legislators. Way to go.
We went to see the Alamo's presentation of the Oscar nominated short films, both live action and animation. They are quite fantastic films, and I think of a better caliber than many of the nominated feature length pieces. My most favorites were French Roast, The Door and The New Tenants. Though it is hard to pick a favorite, because they were all really, really good. IF you have the chance to see any of these films, go! (Especially if you live in Austin and can go to the awesome Alamo.) I really wish we could see more short films like this.
The most beautiful piece was not listed in the program actually. It was The Kinematograph, which was lush and haunting. It was quite like being in another world for those minutes.
I keep having these intensely dramatic nightmares. At first I thought it was the pain medication but it has been a few days and they are still going on in my sleep.
Today was one of those aching blue days full of white light.
