Most of the April 1st internet jokes are annoying, and I am the humorless sort of jerk who groans at having to sift the unreal and real news stories. But I did sort of love this made up quote from the Austin Chronicle's "UT to End Football Program:"
"UT President Bill Powers confirmed the decision from his weekend retreat in Marfa. "If UT is going to remain a world-class university, we have to be able to hire new faculty every once in a while and to repair the academic buildings that are collapsing due to deferred maintenance. With the money we'll save on coaches' salaries alone," he said, "we can permanently endow several academic departments."
It's funny because it's so painfully true.
Lately I find myself uninterested in almost everything. It's hard to focus. I feel guilty about it because I feel like I'm wasting tons and tons of time.
Oh coworkers. Stop inventing your own abbreviations for things because you are either too lazy or too slow to get your work done. Seriously. It just makes me mad.
Re-watching Eraserhead the other day made me remember - I hate that movie. Not because it is vexing surrealist film. But I hate that grating aural cacophony present throughout the movie. It's physically painful to me. It's so uncomfortable that I imagine it would render even the most enticing and palatable visuals unwatchable. I think it is possible to make unusual film with unusual sound without it being torture for the viewer. Jan Švankmajer's Alice comes to mind.
