I planted something for the first time in probably twenty years. (The last things I remember planting were a cantaloupe vine, some marigolds and some strawberries when I was about ten. One tiny melon grew and was eaten by ants.) This morning I watered them in the 9am sunlight, which is already starting to feel sticky.
Blue ageratum and what will hopefully become golden and orange marigolds.
When we moved into the house, there were small shrubs growing in the pots, with dusty green leaves. They needed a lot of water though. During the awful summer last year after my surgery I couldn't take care of them, and Mike forgot, so the plants died. One seems to live on a bit, though the other two are dead. It's sad without any color there, but I don't know much about growing things. So maybe some little annual flowers will help, and I won't feel so bad when they give up their green ghosts.
My birthday is tomorrow and I feel a little sad. I did get a birthday card though, from Fred and Emily. (Mike's grandparents, so grandparents-in-law?) Fred's recovering from heart surgery so I sent him a card of a turtle wrapped in a big ace bandage.
At least I'm not an auto journalist like Peter Cheney, whose son crashed a 2010 Porsche Turbo through the garage door. As seen here, that kid is having a much worse week than me.
