Yesterday we celebrated Canadia Day (which is completely different from Canada day) with some delicious homemade poutine and donair. Today we're celebrating USA day by going to see the Master Pancake guys send up holiday alien invasions. I am also watching an all day marathon of Cops and reading.
Each time I think about writing something about Independence Day and America and the Census and race and nationality, I get tangled up and ultimately feel like I'm not sure what the hell I'm saying. There are wonderful and terrible things in the United States, in what we are and what we do. Nothing so enormous could be anything but complicated and contradictory.
We're celebrating by paying some neighborhood kids to mow our lawn and take care of the fallen down tree/bush. It's a couple kids, and their dads help them transport their equipment around. I like that - they even have business cards.
