November always seems to be the time I write the least.
Of course we went through and dumped all the little boxes before I started needing them. I'm half tempted to order something from Amazon just for the box. I'm sure there's one somewhere lurking the house and I can use it. I have to mail my candy swap parcel. It is full of caramel things. Yuletide people are also organizing a book swap so I signed up for that. I just like getting mail.
I really hope I can write something awesome for Yuletide.
So I think I've tentatively worked out my Thanksgiving menu. I might do a trial cake run this week. (Mike's parents and sister are coming next week.) I don't really have the attachment to Thanksgiving because it wasn't a holiday we celebrated especially when I was a child. But I do show my love with cooking, so it works out. Anyhow this is what I'm probably going to serve:
- Ham. (I like ham way more than turkey and it is far less fussy.) I'll probably make a crust/glaze out of crushed pecans, apple cider and bourbon. Mmm. Bourbon pecan ham.
- Haricots verts with almonds. Or pecans. I find these green beans much more interesting when crunchy and served with nuts.
- Potato leek soup. People are always so particular about their mashed potatoes so I'll sidestep the entire business by making awesome, Julia Child style soup. Butter AND cream, yes.
- Biscuits. Without a doubt, always the best part of a meal.
- Spice cake with caramel frosting. I bought a pretty cake stand, so I want to make a pretty cake.
Who am I kidding? I'll end up making three desserts and forget to cook the green beans. Hahah. Well, it is what I'm planning so far. Everyone is going off to San Antonio on Wednesday and since I have no interest in San Antonio that means I can stay home and cook.
Today I exercised, went to therapy and went to the grocery store. I meant to do a couple other things but I was tired and just read a book all afternoon instead. The grocery store forgot to pack my milk. I also forgot to buy powdered sugar. Last night I made Swedish meatball sandwiches with lingonberry preserves. It was so good I bought more rolls. Then we watched a bunch of episodes of The Office.
