Jun. 21st, 2011 04:13 pmAccording to the thermometer in my back yard we're well over 100 again. I made the foolish decision to walk to the mail box. No sight of anything moving out there in the still, burning air. My yard is crispy. I had a nightmare about trying to put out fires from fireworks there.
Summer is a time for swimming and spending the rest of the time in the air conditioned caverns, reading and daydreaming. These days I follow the news on Twitter and wonder just how fucking cruel and ridiculous the New York Senate imagines it can be. I still find it boggling that they can just refuse to hear/vote on a bill already through the Legislature and the clamor of public voices, but devote their time to deciding whether sweet corn is a vegetable or not. It's really heartbreaking to watch one of the most important civil rights issues of my lifetime, gay marriage, be ignored in favor of discussing corn. Fucking corn.
