I read this on the local paper's website this evening. So just in case you're tempted to randomly crawl through some air ducts in any time soon, for the love of everything don't do it. Ugh. This is so creepy.

Police: Body of missing woman found in building’s air duct
Monday, June 27, 2011, 04:45 PM

The body of 26-year-old Jamie Minor, who went missing late last month, was found in an exhaust duct system inside the downtown Norwood Tower building in what police are describing as a tragic accident, authorities said Monday.

Minor was using the system as a way to access Perry’s Steakhouse restaurant, which is located in the Norwood Tower property area, to see a friend, police Cmdr. Julie O’Brien said. But Minor instead became trapped and died, O’Brien said.

Minor went missing May 23 after she was let go from her hostess job at the Trace restaurant in the W Hotel, her mother Pamela Minor said.

On Saturday, police, with the assistance of the Austin Fire Department, located and retrieved Minor’s body from inside the system, police said.

At a press conference Monday afternoon, O’Brien said Minor was reported to have been behaving erratically during her shift at Trace restaurant. Minor was asked to await a ride home, but left, police said.

Minor once worked at Perry’s Steakhouse, police said. She was seen on surveillance cameras that night trying to access the restaurant through a side and back door, police said.

Minor appears to have entered the exhaust duct system on the third floor of an attached parking garage and descended downward at least another floor before she became trapped between the first and second floors of the building.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Jamie’s family,” said Nancy Burns, director of property management at Norwood Property Tower Management. “We feel terrible about it.”

Austin police said Monday they believed Minor may have been trapped in the system for several weeks and that there was no indication of foul play.
