book tag

I went through about a year's worth of journal entries as I've finally broken down to using tags. I know, I know. They are smart and helpful. But when faces with a decade of journal entries, the thought of going back through to tag all that is awful and daunting. But, I decided just to use a few to start. Entries about absurd product reviews, Alamo Drafthouse things and books seemed easy to spot and categorize.

Reading back through, I realized that just about every July I hit a period where I can no longer concentrate enough to read. I currently have three books open in various stages of completion scattered around the house - a fantasy novel, a sarcastic book about how to actually write and sell screenplays in Hollywood, and a book about the history of Area 51. I'm not making much progress and sort of despair. But sooner or later the Summer of the Deathly Heats 2011 has to let up a little. I thought it might yesterday, but despite the thunder and wind I only felt a few tiny prickling drops of rain.

Anyhow, about the books. The last few times I went to Half Price I left empty handed. (I know.) So you should tell me what you're reading or what you've read recently that was good.

In other news, I made some pralines yesterday. I forgot to add vanilla. They are still quite good though! A candy thermometer is a fabulous thing. I also managed not to break anything, drop anything or burn myself with boiling sugar.

The Murdoch testimony yesterday killed my work productivity and ate my brain. It was surreal.
